Ode to Our Fearless Councillors

January 17, 2012

You often hear about them in the news, and sometimes you see their smiling faces as sponsors on our Quinpool Road promotional materials, but you may not be aware of the many ways they support the efforts of our Business District.

Councillor Sue Uteck has been on the Quinpool Road Mainstreet District Association’s board for over three years, and she rarely misses a meeting. She is always available for phone calls, text and meetings and is a tireless supporter of Quinpool Road. She was a key player in working with us to amend the liquor license laws on Quinpool, has attended most of our events, and has graciously hosted and cooked for the board members’ barbecue for the past two years.

She has sponsored the Holiday Calendar two years in a row and has sponsored numerous events on Quinpool Road. Sue (with her dog, Homer) has been the grand marshal of our Pet Parade for the past two years.
Sue recently advocated for streetscaping dollars for Quinpool Road and succeeded in obtaining streetscaping funds for trees, artistic bike racks, and new and improved flyer stations at the Canadian Tire and Oxford Theater locations She even walked up and down the street to determine locations for our new banners which are expected this spring.

Councillor Jennifer Watts never misses a meeting or public hearing that concerns Quinpool Road. She always shows up well read and prepared.

She is always available for advice and is always up to date on issues concerning Quinpool Road. Jennifer was a great help in amending the liquor license laws for the District. She was there to represent her constituents and mediated a workable solution which was well received by the businesses and residents.
Jennifer’s background in urban and rural planning has proved extremely helpful in all Quinpool Road streetscaping plans, and she will be an integral part of the team for this initiative in the New Year.

Like Sue, she attends the majority of our events and has sponsored the Holiday Calendar of Events two years in a row. Last year Jennifer was kind enough to volunteer to be soaked in the Fall Fair dunk tank, (not a fun job I can assure you), and this year she was a major sponsor of our fall Quinfest event.

Jennifer continues to keep her constituents and Members of the Board updated and informed with her timely newsletters.

We are very fortunate to have such enthusiastic councillors who contribute to the development of our fine Business District.
