Space to Grow

Twenty-seven planters full of edible plants were placed along Quinpool Road from early June until early October. On October 4th, volunteers from Organic Earth Market, Jayme Melrose from Common Roots Urban Farm, Karla Nicholson and a number of city workers helped empty the planters and return them to storage for the winter months. Thanks to our sponsors who made this initiative possible; Common Roots Urban Farm, Royal Bank RBC Quinpool Branch, Freeman’s Little New York, Halifax Regional Municipality, Councillor Shawn Cleary and Lindell Smith. This project was a great example of what can be achieved when everyone works together. The board has created a Greening Committee to review what worked and what didn’t work this year and to determine the next best steps for greening the street next year. Which leads us to ….
