As we collectively wait for the Centre Plan to move forward, it is comforting to see that at least some of the proposed development projects have been reviewed by staff. Below is a brief update on those developments:
Projects Moving Forward
Ben’s Bakery – Westwood Developments
The Halifax Peninsula PAC moved the Ben’s Bakery project forward with some recommendations related to articulation of townhouses, concerns over height. Keeping mature trees and some minor details.
Dexel Developments – Robie, Pepperell and Shirley (14 Storey)
Application by Dexel Developments to change the Halifax Municipal Planning Strategy and Halifax Peninsula Land Use By-law to allow a 14-storey building with commercial uses and residential units, on lands fronting Robie, Pepperell and Shirley Streets. The 14-storey building is an update to an earlier proposal for a 12-storey building on the site.
Staff recommended further council consideration
Dexel Developments – McDonalds/Fitness FX (10 story maximum development)
WSP/Architecture 49/Façade Investments Ltd – Quinpool & Pepperell – 11 storeys plus townhouses – 7Peppers, BiOne and Visage Spa — Application to amend the Halifax MPS and Halifax Peninsula LUB to enable an 11-storey mixed-use development at 6290-6298 Quinpool Rd, and 6325-6331 Pepperell St, Halifax.
