Space To Grow

October 24, 2018

It was another successful year for our Space to Grow Planting initiative. We partnered with Common Roots Urban Farm, the city, Councillor Shawn Cleary, RBC and Freeman’s to plant 27 planters in front of fourteen businesses along Quinpool Road. The planters were filled with kale, nasturtiums, dill, tomatoes, marigolds, calendula, borage and strawberries that were on Quinpool Road from May 31st to October 9th. Thanks to the city of Halifax for providing the planters, to Councillor Shawn Cleary for allocating $6,000 of his Capital Funds towards the project, RBC for their Day of Service Grant and to Freeman’s for feeding all of the volunteers on planting day. A very special thanks to Sara Burgess at Common Roots Urban Farm for all of her hard work and expertise, our volunteers and to the fourteen businesses who adopted the planters and tended to them over the past few months.
